About these Pictures

About these pictures:

My intrigue and passion for the beauty of the sky that happens for simple minutes each day, led me to capture these magical moments on film.

Lucky for me I have been very fortunate to live in a home with a fantastic view of the bay area.

From My desk I can see the sun and the moon dip into the sea. From my bed I can watch the clouds delicately dance across the sky. And from my chair at night I can watch the lights of the bay bridges twinkle in shades of yellow as the light from Alcatraz flashes by. Yes I am one lucky lady!

About me:

My name is Damaris and I am an engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley. I play the viola and violin and I love enjoying the great outdoors and the amazing qualities of nature. I have a fascination with the flowers, fresh air, and captivating sunsets.

To be quite honest, a simple flower can keep me intrigued for hours: as I take in its scent, its colors, its texture, its balance of tones, its chaotic placement of its pollen, the balance of petals reaching out to the sky ( or reaching out to all the flowers next door). I can't help but notice the simplicity of their

For a while now I have been using a simple automatic camera while experimenting with different speeds of Kodak film. Believe it or not, despite the fact that I cannot control many of the settings, the pictures turn out surprisingly well. Unfortunately when it comes to detail shots, the quality has been severely lacking.

Recently I have had the fortune of being able to use a digital camera borrowed from my good friend Leo.( Thanks Leo!!!) As a result, the rest of the close shots of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco bay have been brilliantly captured using his digital Sony Camera.

As for location, most of these pictures have been taken while looking outside my bedroom window, believe it or not! ( I feel like I live in a little palace in the sky!!!) Let me just say that I consider myself very fortunate and I treasure the moments I have spent in this room looking at the the peaceful world below.

From where I sit, the town of Berkeley peacefully sits and waits, while the students rush by on its streets. From where I sit, the city of San Francisco continuously attempts to hide itself in deep clouds of mystery and intrigue. And from where I sit, the ocean glistens and glitters in its everchanging colors of deep blue with hints of gold. Yes, from where I sit, life is good.

I also make it a habit of hiking up to the Lawrence hall of science to get some hard-core exercise and to go see the sunset. Believe it or not, the view from over there is better then my room! I highly recommend going up there sometime though I must warn you, right after the sun sets, it gets freezing cold. Don't bother going if you didn't bring enough warm clothing... and if you do make it, I'll be the one dressed as an Eskimo.

In terms of this web page, all the banners and backgrounds were made by me, using parts of the sunset photos, and manipulating them using Adobe Photoshop LE and JASC Paint Shop Pro. All the colors on these pages were extracted from the shades present in my sunset pictures ( except for the black text ). The web page itself was made using Adobe PageMill.

Well thank you for visiting my website and I hope you enjoyed these sunsets as much as I did. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to email me.

Take care,

Con Amor,

Damaris.

form, and the complexity of their beauty. I can't help but notice how all the elements of the flower keep it in a delicate but perfect balance, but how the chaotic arrangement of everything else makes the simple being unlike any other.... Yes, one simple flower can keep me intrigued for hours and hours.

I light up like a child when I walk down a simple path to class and notice a delicate leaf or a subtle shade of color I had never seen before. I am intrigued by the passing of the fog, the falling of the sun, and the changing of the colors that evolve in this world of mine. I cannot help but laugh when a squirrel comes up to me and inspects me as closely as I do him. I cry in a amazement when the purity of the sun races across the sky and touches the deep blue ocean, casting on it a pure gold rug more magnificent then anything made by man. Quite simply, the splendors of nature leave me in awe.

The only thing more shocking then this is, when I realize that the people around me don't seem to notice this amazing beauty of the world. People just rush out in the world tending to the routine business of life with a big hurry that takes precedence over their lives. It leaves me in shock when I realize how long it has been since some people have watched the sun rise or the fog fall. My heart goes out to these people and the only thing I can say is 'get thy eyes away from the four cornered illuminating box in front of you and go out and enjoy the world for what it is.'

Alas, I realize that not everybody thinks this way. Not everybody enjoys nature the way I do. But for those of you that are fascinated but haven't' found the time, I would like to offer you a gift, a gift of nature.

I would like to show you the wonders of the world though my eyes. I would like to extrapolate the essence of the ever changing colors of the skies and capture it on film so that at any hour of the day or night, you too can appreciate the beauty of a sunset.

Thanks for letting me share this with you and I hope you appreciate these sunsets much as I do.

God bless you,

Con Amor,

Damaris.
