A. Categories and Functions

As a Human Resource Department of our circus, we recruit 67 employees initially according to the requirements of administrative, technical and show divisions. The classifications made on the basis of these requirements are as follows:

Marketing Department is one of the most important departments in the circus as the researches provided by the staff drive the routings, shows, advertising and all current and future prospects. Three personnel are involved in marketing, dealing with market research, advertising, planning and pricing. In a coordinated way, each specializes in his/her own work. The one dealing with marketing research is required to have a degree and/or certificate in marketing and he/she is mainly preferred to have an experience in entertainment, show, etc. business. He/she will be responsible for the market research, which includes regular market researches conducted by the circus staff and the researches conducted by the related companies. Advertising is also prepared according to the results of the market research. The personnel initiating advertisements is selected such that he/she has a high creativity with an expertise in advertisement. Remaining two responsibilities of the marketing department are planning and pricing. Planning of the shows and pricing accompanied with the price discrimination and all promotions are made according to market research. The determinants of the pricing are the living standards of the cities, tourism potential of the cities, the existence of other circuses and entertainment/show activites in the cities which might affect the customer behaviour. Planning of shows is determined considering the festivals and other attractions during the tournee times. The person responsible for the planning and pricing has such qualifications that he/she is able to optimize the revenues arranging the program of the displays by evaluating the results of the research in the best effective way.

Purchasing and Finance Department has two personnel. Purchasing department is responsible for purchasing the requirements of the circus, which includes animals, food and basic nutrients for animals and staff, equipment for shows and maintenance, costumes, tent, cages, etc. In Finance department, all financial analysis and accountancy transactions are prepared. Cost estimations, cost evaluations, fund regulations, profit analysis according to revenue and cost are other major tasks performed. The people to be employed in this department should have a good accounting background in order to cope with the huge amount of accountancy transactions correctly.

Human Resources department is responsible for the training and recruitment. Only one person is capable of providing this duty. In the establishment stage, high-qualified show staff are employed. Therefore training is required only in the case of a new personnel employment or a new project requirement. In the recruitment of showers, only the people having an education in a circus school are employed. When recruiting the administrative staff their education on the related field and their experience on a show business are required.

Utilities, electricity and all other required infrastructure to be able to construct the circus and their maintenance, are provided by one person.

Transportation and Construction department constitues twelve people responsible for driving and construction of the circus when arrived. They are responsible for the requirements to be able to settle in a new place.

Animal Care department provides health-care and feeds the animals. This department is composed of five personnel, three of them are vegeterinarians and two of them are nutritiouses.

Not being included in any of these departments, there is a doctor providing both health-care and first aid in case of an emergency.

Acrobats: This group can act as a trapezer, a stiltwalker, a balancer, and an unicycler. Being totally 25 people, this is the largest group of the show staff.

Animal trainers: Three personnel train the animals. Training contains teaching to the animals, taming the wild animals and instructing to the animals in a show.

Clawns and jugglers: They are of 7 qualified performer.

Magicians: There are 5 people in this category. In addition to the shows in the circus, these people are also employed for the opening parties, ceramonies, picnics, birthday parties, etc.

B. Socio-economic and Cultural Environment

Considering the location of the headquarter and the tourning cities, social, traditional and ethical structure of the cities are appropriate for this entertainment type. People’s attitude towords a circus performer is quite charming. This gives people an encouragement to act in a circus.

C. Project-Related Requirements

We have a high skilled and well-trained staff for shows. This does not require trainings on a regular basis. In the case of a new show, either an instructor is hired for training or new performers are employed considering the capacity of the circus. All other trainings are provided by the experienced performers of the circus.

D. Availability and Recruitment

Circus is a very popular entertainment style for people. Not particularly in Pannsylvania, but in the neighbourhouding there are schools for circus performers at eavh level. This provies an available qualified people range for the circus. In the future ambitions of the circus, a circus school is considered to be open, so that for future staff will be grown according to the required techniques.On the other hand, people are willing to become a circus performer because entertainment provided by the circuses is appropriate to rhe social structure of the society, its ethics and traditions. Recently, a number of circus schools available in the United Stated bring up qualified people. Therefore finding a qualified staff in terms of all administrative, technical and show staff is rather easy.

E.Training Plan

In the establishment level, only the candidates trained in a circus school are recruited as a show staff. Therefore, initially there is no need for training, training is necessary for prospects of project-based requirements, only. This is thought for the following 3-4 years after settling down in the market. When the new employees are recruited, they are trained by the experienced show staff of the circus. As it is considered as a future project, opening a circus school will broaden the instruction staff dealing with only the training. This school will educate people not only for The Big Circus of Pennyslvania, also for other entertainment business.
