Pfc. Raymond W. Agee (right) of Ft. Worth , Texas, releases a hydrogen filled balloon as Pfc. Robert L. Rohlp of Sioux City, Iowa, follows its path with a theodlite. The instrument is used to measure the angle between the earth and the balloon as it disappears into the clouds. The "ceiling" or height of the cloud base can then be determined by trigonometry. Both men are assigned to the 1835th Weather Squadron at Wiesbaden Air Force Base, an Airlifting station.
