Berlin Airlift

"I arrived in Berlin in August 1948, assigned to the 7826th
Service Company at McNair Barracks in Lichterfelde. They were building an air strip at Tegel in the French sector. I was sent there on Temporary Duty as company clerk. When they needed a longer strip to land Globemaster, I worked as a heavy equipment operator. I was a Private First Class, and
later Corporal."
