Berlin Airlift

Record Group 342 -G 25-69644 AC

Pointing to a chart of the newly-opened airlift terminal at Celle in the British Zone, Colonel Thomas J. Hampton, Left, commanding U.S. Air Force units, and Group Captain J. M. Stepson, commander of the RAF base, plan new methods of streamlining loading operations. While British units at Celle are responsible for loading Berlin-bound cargo aboard U.S. Air Force C-54s, it is up to the U.S. Air Force to take over from there. Colonel Hampton's deputy, Colonel
Crimminis, stands beside the RAF commander.

Control tower at the new airlift terminal at Celle in the British Zone co-ordinates U.S. Air Force C-54s flying the Berlin corridor with ground loading operations of British army and RAF units at the RAF terminal. British and American airmen together form an airlift team similar to that of nearby Fassberg, another RAF base from which
U.S. Air Force planes fly the round-the-clock-schedule
to Berlin.
