Study Programs
1. Degree Programs:
School of Chinese Studies offers 2-year associate and 4-year bachelor degree programs to
foreign students. The programs may be extended to 4 and 6 years respectively.
2. Non-degree programs:
(1) Regular
a. Fall semester: 18 weeks starting from September 1.
b. Spring semester: 18 weeks starting from March 1.
(Students may either enroll in the Fall or Spring semester.)
- (2) Short-term
- a. Spring Session: 4 weeks starting from March 1.
b. Golden Week Session: 7-10 days from the end of April to the beginning
of May.
c. Summer Session: 4 weeks starting from July 20.
- (3) Chinese Culture Tour Class:
- Classes and tours can be arranged upon request. A minimum of 10
students are required for group enrollment.
- Enrollment
- 1. Students with certificates granted from senior high
schools or institutions above level are eligible for admission. Students in pursuit of a
degree should be under 45.
- 2. The Culture Tour Class welcomes all who are interested
in the Chinese language and culture.
- 3. In good health.
Application
- 1. Universities or social organizations sponsoring or
recommending students please contact School of Chinese Studies, Xi'an Foreign Language
Univ.
- 2. Individual applicants press the "Contacting Us" for Application Form .On the acceptance, the
school will mail a letter to notify your admission and along with it the Application for
Entry to China (JW202).With these papers you may proceed to apply for entry visa to China
from Chinese embassies or consulate generals in your country or region.
Classes and Academic Activities
- 1. Curriculum: degree program students please see the
leaflet for course arrangements. Nondegree students will be assigned to classes according
to their beginning level.Courses offered are IntensiveChinese,Listening,Conversational
Chinese, Audiovisual Chinese, Reading Comprehension, Writing, Introduction to Chinese
Characters,Mass - media, Chinese Literature, Chinese Culture, Chinese History, Chinese
Martial Arts and Chinese Painting.
- 2. Twenty classroom hours are arranged for required courses
Monday through Friday mornings. Optional courses are conducted Monday through Friday
afternoons. Tests are scheduled at the end of each semester. Certificates corresponding to
the program are granted to the students who pass the tests.
- 3. Entrusted by the State Commission of Chinese Proficiency
Test, School of Chinese Studies administers the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) in the middle of January and late May every year. Students who
pass the test are awarded the Certificate for Chinese Proficiency.
- 4. Field trips to local sites of historical interests and
one to places outside of Xi'an or the province are organized each semester so that
students may practice the language and learn the culture outside of their classrooms.

- 1. Tuition
- (1) Degree programs: $1800/year

- d. The Culture Tour class fluctuates with the length of
study and route
- 2. Accomodation:(About the Guest House)

- 3. Fees for visa and other ID cards as well as for health
examination and confirmation will he paid to city officials in charge.
- 4. Food expenses: The monthly cost in the students
cafeteria is approximately $70.
- 5. According to the State ploicy tuition and fees are
non-refundable to those who drop out for their own reasons.
Registration
- The admission letter, the JW202 form, and eight 2- inch passport
photos are needed
- for registration. For students in the one - year program the
health certificate is required
- For free transportation from the airport or the train station your
notification of the
- specific time of arrival with flight/train number is appreciated.
