Responsibilities: To help develop, monitor and report on Cities Alliance-funded work program activities, and ensure the dissemination of lessons emerging from these activities; to further develop and maintain the database on on-going slum upgrading programs financed by Cities Alliance partners and, subsequently, expand to capture all ongoing upgrading programs; to contribute to and expand the knowledge disseminated effort of the Cities Alliance; to assist requested in organizing official meetings of the Cities Alliance, including meetings of the Consultative Group, Public Policy Forum and Policy Advisory Board; and to participate in field missions as needed, and provide technical assistance to partner agencies.

Responsibilities: To support and co-ordinate the negotiations between Aswan Governorate, Aswan City Council and the Project to establish an autonomous Solid Waste Department (SWD) at the Governorate level responsible for preparing General Plans and Guidelines for solid waste management and monitoring the privatization processes. The task activities were to design the supportive organizational, financial, legal and human resource frameworks which could enable the SWD to act independently and effectively.

July-August 2000:

Responsibilities: To review and evaluate Egypt's experience with urban management and upgrading in terms of: Land management and legal access to land for the poor, local organization and distribution of development tasks between local communities and local government, public and private finance and partnership, information management, sustainable and non-sustainable mechanisms, experience from the National Program of Urban Upgrading and lessons learnt and not learnt, and to give specific recommendations for future nation-wide upgrading programs in Egypt.

Responsibilities: To assist in the implementation of a capacity-building program for Aswan Governorate, technical advice and monitoring of several development projects related to environment, primary health care, urban and community development, and coordinating with Aswan Governorate to propose new projects for funding.

April 1996- October 1996:

This project was nominated in 1997 for the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture and the Habitat (UNCHS) Record of 'Best Practice'.

Responsibilities: To co-operate with the Nasriya project team and the community representatives to prepare a land management concept for the new development of East Nasriya.

January 1992- June 1994:

Responsibilities: To supervise a team of 10 urban planners, surveyors and draftspersons to prepare an urban development strategy for Aswan Governorate, including General and Structural Plans, Detailed Planning and Participatory Urban Upgrading.

December 1989- January 1992:

Architect and Urban Planner. The German Agency for Technical Co-operation (GTZ)- The Nasriya and Tabya Urban Upgrading Projects.

Responsibilities: To design and supervise the implementation of 13 neighborhood centers with people's participation, a new preparatory school, a kindergarten, a new garage for waste disposal tractors and project's equipment, improvement of 3 primary schools, and the preparation of a detailed plan for the extension of East Nasriya in conjunction with the project's consultants.
