Childhood

I was born in Bratsk (Sibir, Russia) at May 84` and made the "ALIA" at 30.8.01 as a member of "SELA" program.

Before I came to Israel we was three, me, my father and my stepmother.

My parents live together for 10 years, first eight years everything was fine, we was a happy family (I guess so...), then my father start to drink. My mother and dad had a lot of fights because of that, during their fights I tried to hide, to run away, usualy I just went to sleep in my room.

Finally my mother started to drink to, but not as my father he died when I was 11 years old because of heart attack. First time I very suffer mom's lost, then I get used to the fact that mom is not with me anymore. Of course I still remember her; She worked in the airport can't remember where exactly now. My father was a fireman in officer's rank.

The time passes over, my father meet and marry my stepmother, at first time, about two years, we was fighting each other, then we used one to another, I like her she is a great woman.

In Russian school I hadn't a lot of friends, they tought themselves higher then me, they believe thet they from higher society then I do. They treat me very bad, but I choose not to go down to their level and ignored them as long as I could, usualy that's the way the conflicts was ended.

In the college the situation was better, I had a lot of friends, they was ready to accept me as I am, they was listening to me and my opinion wasn't just words for them. Mostly they was my age, boys, but girls was also a part of us company.

The ALIA

-How I heard about the "SELA" program?
-I was study in pedagogic college and one of my teachers (history teacher) was jewish, he told us about different programs that "Jewish Agency" was runnig and suggest me to join **"NA'ALE" program. I contacted the jewish agency and gave my documents there.

Passed about year and half before I was invited for a test, the tests was in Irkutsk (neighbor city). they included math, hebrew (for those who knew hebrew), english, psychotechnic tests and psychologist. I didn't passed for the "NA'ALE" program and did the tests for a "SELA" program.
We was seating and having dinner when suddenly the phone ringed. My granny was on the other side of the line, she asked if I'm sitting and told me that I passed. I couldn't continue to talk. I didn't believe that I'll pass, but I passed.
My eyes became wet,
I'm was crying...

After I recovered from the first shock I run to tell my friends, they was happy for me but didn't want me to leave, and I was happy and sad in the same time. Happy to go to Israel and start a new better life and sad for leave all the things I was knew and used to them.

About half year passed between I received the answer and the flight, my arrangements was not too long, a week maybe less.
At the train station escort me about half hundred people, friends and relatives. I was holding myself at the station, but when the train moved I couldn't hold myself anymore, I was crying... stopping and starting to cry again and again all the way to Novosibirsk airfield. At Novosibirsk "Jewsh Agency" people meet us and we went for pre-flight checks.
I remember my last words before I entered the plane was "Good bye unwashed Russia".

ISRAEL

Part of people who was aboard with me I knew from the tests, and it gave me some filling of secure that I needed so much that time. The flight was smooth and comfortable.
The first filling when I steped out of the plane in Israel was the heat wave that shocked me after the cool atmosphere in the plane. I came from northen Russia and came to Israel at August, the hottest season in Israel. The second impression was the palms in "Ben-Gurion" airport, also the part I wasn't use to in cold and now far so many miles away Bratsk.

"Jewish Agency" was waitnig for us at the airfield, everything was planned very well, and took us to repatriants hostels over the country. I was tooked to "Maon Altchul" in Beer-Sheva, city at south of Israel with desert climate (once again a big change after what I was used to before). In Beer-Sheva I meet new friends and become attached to them very fast. Even found a boyfriend he was also a member of "SELA" program that was previous to our, he is a bit like "Don Juan" but I like him, he is cute.

-Why I made the "ALIA"?
-I wanted to get more. Israel, I hope so, will give me opportunity to self achievement and a chance for a new future.
As a first step in Israel I want to join the Army, I didn't decided yet what I want to do in my life and I hope the Army will open horizons and give me some directions, right now I can't see myself after the army, Let's live and see...

*"SELA"-Jewish Agency program, program based on jewish teens who want to study and get their education in Israel.
**"NA'ALE"-"Jewish Agency" program, "NA'ALE" or "Noar Ole Lifney Horim" is a hebrew abbreviator of "Teens repatriating before parents"
