1. Answer the following questions briefly

(1) What are celestial bodies?

(Ans) All objects-sun,planets,moons and millions of bright objects seen during the night which belong to the universe are called celestial bodies.
 

(2) What is meant by 'solar system'?

(Ans) The sun and the nine planets make up the family of the sun or solar system.
 

(3) Why is the earth called a blue planet?

(Ans) Due to the presence of water on the earth it appears blue from the space. Therefore it is called a blue planet.
 

(4) Why do we see one side of the moon?

(Ans) The moon takes 27days and 8 hours to complete one revolution around the earth.It takes exactly the same time to complete one rotation on its axis.Therefore we see only one side of the moon.
 

(5) Which planets rotate from east to west?

(Ans) Venus and Uranus rotate from east to west.
 

(6) Why does Mercury take less time in completing one revolution than the earth?

(Ans) Mercury takes less time in completing one revolution than the earth because it is nearer to the sun.

IV Describe the composition of the solar system.
(Ans)The sun,the nine planets along with their satellites make up the solar system. These nine planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Satrun, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. All these planets have 49 satellites.

(V) Why is the Earth a unique planet in the Solar System?
(Ans)Earth is a unique planet because there is water, air and life is possible here.
