"Religion bestoweth upon man the most precious of all gifts, offereth the cup of prosperity, imparteth eternal life, and showereth imperishable benefits upon mankind."
I am a member of the Baha'i Faith and have been all my life. I am a Baha'i for countless reasons. One of the reasons is because it makes sense to me. I think that everything in this world/universe has to be connected somehow. The Baha'i teachings reflect this in many ways. For example, one of the beliefs is that science and religion are in harmony, they are not seperate. Another is that all of the major world religions have come from God. That religion is not a one-time deal, it is continuous. As one song goes that I listened to as a kid, "God never leaves man alone". This means that throughout history God continually sends Messengers or Manifestations down to us to guide us in our living. The Manifestations all teach the same basic spiritual principles, while adding to the old ones and changing social laws (such as those of marriage, education, etc.) I think that this makes sense because civilization/mankind is always advancing and changing. It would not be "practical" for God to have only once sent a Manifestation to tell us how to live, for the issues that were important two thousand years ago are not the same as the issues that face us today. To read more about the Baha'i Faith, visit my Baha'i room where I have some information as well as many links to good Baha'i websites.
"It is permissible to study sciences and arts, but such sciences as are useful and would redound to the progress and advancement of the people..."
I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, a nice little campus in western Wisconsin. I majored in elementary education and minored in both mathematics and international studies. I enjoyed college and now am in the workforce. Of course being a teacher I am really never finished with my education!
I have been involved in several organizations, including the international relations club, spanish club, and diversity awareness committee.
Currently I am substitute teaching. It is interesting to see the different classrooms and teachers. I am looking forward to having my own classroom. My wish is to teach overseas, eventually in several different countries.
"The education and training of children is among the most meritorious acts of humankind and draweth down the grace and favor of the All-Merciful, for education is the indispensable foundation of all human excellence and alloweth man to work his way to the heights of abiding glory."
As a person going into the education field should be, I am very interested in education. I of course believe that everyone should be able to get an education no matter who or where they are. I also think that being a teacher is a very important task. Unlike most people I did not want to become a teacher because of role model teachers that I had. I have had some good teachers in the past, but I'm not very attracted towards the way that many schools are run and the way that teachers treat the children. Instead, it has been the Baha'i teachings about education that have inspired me most. If I had a choice I would love to teach Baha'i childrens classes as a job. I love children and I enjoy doing projects that involve the Baha'i principles also, and seeing what kind of ideas the children have about them. However, I will go wherever I end up, wherever God wishes me to be. And whichever job I end up getting I will do the best I can to educate the children.
"O God, educate these children. These children are the plants of Thine orchard, the flowers of Thy meadow, the roses of Thy garden. Let Thy rain fall upon them; let the Sun of Reality shine upon them with Thy love. Let Thy breeze refresh them in order that they may be trained, grow and develop, and appear in the utmost beauty. Thou art the Giver. Thou art the Compassionate."
"If love and agreement are manifest in a single family, that family will advance, become illumined and spiritual; but if enmity and hatred exist within it destruction and dispersion are inevitable."
When I am not at school I am at home, in a small township in central Wisconsin. I live with my parents, my four younger sisters, younger brother, older brother, as well as all the pets mentioned below. While we have our differences like most families, I'd venture to say that we are a quite unifed family. My friends always say that our house is very quiet and peaceful for having so many people! I love my family, and I am fortunate to be able to be staying at home while looking for a permanent teaching job. See my family room to see pictures of some of my lovely siblings
"He should show kindness to animals"
My family has always had several pets in the house, since my mom is an animal lover. We've had dogs, cats, parakeets, canaries, hamsters, guinea pigs, and a goat. I myself have had some sea monkeys and currently have one hermit crab. Both quiet pets for my dorm room at college. I once bought three hermit crabs. One died and I was left with two. Apparently they didn't get along very well because Posho ended poor Fob's life. Last year I thought I would try once more and I got a friend for Posho. After all, the books say that hermit crabs prefer the company of their kind. After only a few short weeks, however, Posho made lunch of the new guy. No more friends for Posho! She shall live the rest of her days as an old maid...
