Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram are two
towns in southern India, south of Madras, and I spent two days there.
I relaxed a bit on the beach, saw some old temples, and met some
wonderful Indians
I always thought that snake-charmers were
a myth, but this man proved me wrong. Some people claimed the cobra
had its teeth taken out, but it scared me, nevertheless
I remember these two young kids asking me
for money, and I didn't know what to do. Nothing got to me more than
seeing kids in such need, and it taunts me to this ay that I didn't
give them money. I still don't know what was right
I heard about the elephants in India, too,
but this was the only one I saw
The key to my room was misplaced, as were
all of the spares. It was great watching the workers break into my
room with a Bic pen!
Nobody ever spoke of India as beautiful,
but it undoubtfully was
I became friends with this man, who called
himself Lucas. I still remember the poem he wrote me:
"Some people like a tall ship
Some people like a big ship
Some people like a small ship
But I like your friendship."
I traded my watch for the bracelet he is
wearing. At first I thought he got the better side of the deal, but
the bracelet and the poem are still with me
