We stopped on the side of the road on the way to the Cao
Dai temple to look at this inactive volcano from afar
Cao Dai is a unique Vietnamese religion that combines
western and eastern religions. This temple was surely the most
beautiful of buildings that I'd ever seen.
We came just in time to see a religious ceremony, and they
were very willing to have us watch. The service involved some
wonderful music played on some instruments that I'd never seen, but I
felt too bad to take a picture of the band.
We then came to the Cu Chi tunnels, used for hiding,
living, and underground transport during the war.
I didn't know what I was getting into!
Julie will probably kill me for this picture, but it does
show how small the tunnels were. We got claustrophobic after just a
few minutes, and I can't possibly imagine how people were able to
live in hiding like that. I quickly learned that bats don't like
flash photography.
The tunnels were quite an experience. It was intense, and
I'm glad that I did it, but once was enough.
